An installation for Printed Matter Books by Greg Sholette

Books float, documents sink, and memories are laundered in Sholette’s video installation simultaneously invoking the disastrous flooding of Printed Matter’s basement archives during superstorm Sandy, as well as the erasure of a certain idea of the van-guard institution that uneasily straddle’s the worlds of art and politics. Still, as with any occupation by nature, humans, or gods, through acts of recovery and recollection old initiatives are reborn, new possibilities commenced.
With special thanks to artist Matthew Greco and the staff or Printed Matter.
