The Stigmata of Degeneracy consists of a fictional dialogue based on actual court testimony involving the forced sterilization of allegedly mentally unfit men and women that took place during the early 20th Century in almost every state in the nation. (The shape of one’s ear was believed by some scientists to reveal the degenerate physical and/or mental state of its owner.) It was first exhibited at Artist’s Space in 1992 as part of REPOhistory’s exhibition, Choice Histories.
