Little Workers Collectibles was an installation of four large 48″ x 72″ C-prints taken of figurines sculpted by the artist based on historical and contemporary images of child laborers including Jacob Riis’s “Rag Picker of Fourteen” and a “Loom Girl” by Lewis W. Hine from the 1920s. The project was designed specifically for The Lower East Side Tenement Museum on Orchard Street, NYC. The work was based on information provided by the trade union UNITE, the National Consumers League, & Press for Change. Text panels (not shown) offered contemporary statistics about child labor and historical details about the imagery of childhood and labor (1997).
